Winnipeg Skating Shelters by Patkau Architects

Canada can get pretty cold in the winter, but that doesn’t stop us from getting out and appreciating the snow and ice. That said, sometimes you need a little relief from the elements.

Patkau Architects designed these great bent plywood structures to do just that, providing shelter along an ice skating trail in Winnipeg. The architects describe the cluster as a flotilla, the collective noun for boats… appropriate as they sit anchored on top of a frozen lake. I love the boat like design made by bending plywood into structural shapes.
